Prescription Medications
Students should try to bring enough prescription medication to last their entire time abroad, packed in original labeled containers in their carry-on luggage, as mailing medication internationally is often restricted or illegal. Some prescriptions—especially those for pain management, mental health conditions, or ADHD—may be limited or prohibited in certain countries. Students should consult their healthcare providers well in advance to review the regulations and plan accordingly.
To be prepared, students should carry a written prescription from their provider,
using generic drug names when possible, as these are more widely recognized internationally.
Goucher’s study abroad insurance also provides guidance on traveling with medications and options for filling prescriptions
abroad.
Contraceptives & Birth Control
Contraceptive medications may differ in formulation or dosage outside the U.S. and may not be directly interchangeable. Students are advised to bring an adequate supply of any prescribed contraceptives for the full duration of their time abroad.
