Start of Academic Year Wellness Reminder – COVID-19

Dear Goucher community,

As we have just started our new academic year at Goucher, we are seeing a marked increase in COVID-19 wastewater positivity, which indicates that there are positive cases of COVID-19 on campus. You can track the number of COVID-19 cases on our COVID-19 dashboard. Currently, there are six positive cases, all in isolation. Given this situation, it is imperative that we all take recommended precautions to keep you and the Goucher community healthy.

Effective Tools to Keep our Community Safe
Currently, we are relying on all students, faculty, and staff to continue mitigating the risk of spreading by using self-regulating measures rather than the college implementing mandates. Two of the most effective tools to keep you and others safe are vaccination and masking. Please mask where appropriate, avoiding crowded public spaces, and get your bivalent booster if you have not done so already.

The Student Health Center will host a COVID-19 booster clinic for students on Wednesday, September 27.  Students can sign up for an appointment here and should bring their insurance card and photo ID.

Please also be sure to wash your hands frequently and use hand sanitizer, as appropriate.

If you are sick, please wear a mask, stay away from others as much as possible, and follow the guidance of your healthcare provider.

The Student Health Center is Here to Help
Students can make an appointment in the Student Health Center (SHC) by emailing or calling 410-337-6050. If you do test positive for COVID-19, fill out the illness reporting form. The SHC will contact students who have tested positive to advise them of their isolation period and next steps. Human Resources will likewise do the same for all employees. The SHC will also notify the associate provost’s office of the dates a student will be out of class, and the associate provost will notify the student’s professors.

If you are exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, please follow the CDC guidelines of masking for 10 days following the exposure and testing on day six.

Thank you for continuing to do your part to keep our Goucher campus community healthy and safe.
