"Libraries Transform Communities." The Friends of the Goucher College Library present Leslie Burger, president of the 64,000-member American Library Association and director of the Princeton Public Library in Princeton, N.J., at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2006 in Goucher College’s Kelley Lecture Hall. Attendees are invited to bring new or gently used children’s books for donation to the Baltimore Reads Book Bank. Call 410-337-6362 for more information.


A Literary Day in Washington, D.C.

Tuesday, February 13, 2007 Goucher College Alumnae/i Tours Committee and the Friends of the Goucher College Library

 

Library of Congress with a special tour of Cartoon America, an exhibition from the Wood Collection of political illustrations, comic strips, animations, and caricatures. Folger Shakespeare Library to see a special exhibit, Technologies of Writing in the Age of Print. Explore innovations in writing after the invention of the printing press: graphite pencils, fountain pens, shorthand, erasable writing tables, and improved note-taking and accounting methods. Dr. Heather Wolfe, curator of manuscripts at the Folger and an organizer of the exhibit, will be our guide.

The bus will leave from Dorsey Center at 9:00 a.m. and return at approximately 4:30 p.m. The cost is $55.00. Payment must be received by February 7th. Leaders: Rhoda Dorsey (410) 828-6161 and Lynne Sherman Lyon (410) 823-9021.
