Residencies are held for 8-14 days in January and in July. Please review the schedule for exact dates.

Each program's activities vary slightly, so contact your program director to decide which events are mandatory to fulfill graduation requirements.

Is there an orientation for new students?

Yes. An orientation session that will introduce you to the campus and your program will be held during residency. In advance of your campus arrival, your program director will send you the full residency schedule.

What if I forgot something, want to grab a snack off campus, or just want to explore Charm City?

Shopping

Located across the street from Goucher is Towson Town Center, a mall that is a good source for anything you might forget or for a little retail therapy if you need a break from studying.

Food

If you want snacks during your stay, across from campus there is a Fresh Market and a Starbucks in Dulaney Plaza Shopping Center. Cunningham's Cafe at the Towson Circle is another great option for coffee, breakfast, lunch, and baked goods. There are plenty more dining options within 2 miles if you need variety.

Local Transportation

Options include hotel shuttles, airport shuttles, on-campus Zipcarspublic transportation, the Towson Loop shuttle, and rental cars. There is free parking on campus. If you choose to travel by bus, the closest stops are Dulaney Valley Road & Southerly Drive, Fairmount Avenue & Dulaney Valley Road, Fairmount Avenue & Towsongate Drive, or the Towson Town Center with the #3, 8, 11, 12, 48, and 55 buses. Fares are $1.70 per ride, $4 for a daily pass, or $22 for a weekly pass.

Are meals included?

No, meals are not included. All students in all programs are responsible for their own lunch and dinner during residency.

How much does residency cost?

The non-refundable residency fee varies by program. It covers special events and programming offered during residency. These are all opportunities for continued networking and community-building as you gather with peers and faculty in venues outside of the classroom.

What happens when I arrive on campus?

You will check-in at Julia Rogers 204 and proceed to the first event on your schedule.

What is a typical residency day like?

This varies by program, but generally, students will attend classes from 8a-12p, break for lunch, continue classes or lectures until 6p, and continue on to various evening activities as scheduled.

One of the exciting things about residency is that along with classes, there are all kinds of other special events scheduled, such as field trips, guest speakers, workshops, graduate and alumni showcases, and special dinners. These events help you get the most from your time together with colleagues and faculty while on the campus. You will be busy during your stay, but it will be exciting and gratifying.

What about books and other required reading materials?

Your syllabus will detail any books or coursepacks that you will need for a given course. Most assigned books can be ordered online at our Goucher College Bookstore. Please keep in mind that you will need to allow time for processing and shipping an order from our bookstore, as these books are generally not stocked on our shelves.

For coursepacks, you will find a unique link either in your online course space in Canvas or in your syllabus.

Residency Registration

Class registration opens three months prior to the start of the next semester, so you can register for classes starting the first week of April (fall semester) and November (spring semester). The registrar will e-mail details when registration opens.

Please note: you must register for your courses through My Goucher before completing the questionnaire on the Residency Confirmation Portal. You may receive an error message if you try to complete the questionnaire first.
