Graduate Programs in Education Admissions

Acceptance to the program will be based on an evaluation of the applicant's work and experience, essay, recommendation forms and transcripts. To be considered for admissions, an applicant must complete the steps detailed below for each program, through our graduate admissions portal.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis as they are received. Rolling admissions allows prospective students the opportunity to submit all application materials semesters before their intended enrollment period.

DEADLINES

We operate under a rolling admissions model. Therefore, please note the application deadlines below are suggested for optimal processing time. Start dates for each program may vary based on course offerings and other factors. Please check with admissions for the next enrollment period for your intended program.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS

Step 1: Start your online application. We’ll send you a temporary pin so you can create your personal password after initial log in.

Step 2: Select your intended year, program, and degree to start your application.

Step 3: Submit your materials through the website. Input information for your letter(s) of recommendation to be  either through mail or electronically through your college. Request your official transcripts be sent directly from your institution to Goucher either via mail or electronically to graduateadmissions@goucher.edu. Transcripts are only official when they are received directly from your institution. Transcripts sent directly from applicants will not be used for application review.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

You'll receive email confirmations when materials are received during the process. After you submit your application and we receive all your materials, your application will be submitted for review. If needed, you may be asked to participate in a short admissions interview during the review process. Application review will typically be completed within 5 business days or less.

Once a decision has been made, you will be be notified with an application status update email and prompted to review the decision on your application portal. 

Accepted students are required to submit a nonrefundable $250 enrollment deposit. The deposit will be credited toward tuition charges for the upcoming semester. New students will receive their login information to their student accounts along with new-student onboarding information to ensure a successful enrollment

  • Complete the essay answering program specific questions. Please review essay requirements below.
  • Send official sealed transcripts of degree granting undergraduate and graduate work, if applicable. A graduate transcript may be submitted if you would like transfer credits to be considered. A 3.0 GPA is recommended for admittance. If you have less than a 3.0 GPA, you may write a supplemental statement and/or meet with the program director to discuss your situation.

  • To be eligible for Secondary Education or Secondary Special Education, you need to have a degree in an appropriate certification area, or 30 credits. To be eligible for Elementary Education or Elementary Special Education, you need to have 12 credits in the following subjects (48 credits total): college-level English, Math, Natural Science, and Social Science. 
  • Request a minimum of one letter of recommendation to be completed by a professional or academic reference whom you well enough that they can give an informed opinion of your intellectual ability, capacity for sustained self-directed study, personal qualifications, and professional potential. The recommendation process is completed online through the graduate admission portal.
  • Testing: PRAXIS Core scores as defined by MSDE. Those who submit a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on their most recently earned degree are not required to submit a basic skills assessment (Praxis CORE, ATC, GRE, or SAT). Please note, if you are a conditionally certified teacher working within a school system, you may be required to take the PRAXIS Core exam, regardless of your GPA status. If you have not taken the PRAXIS core exam, and earned below a 3.0 GPA on your most recent conferred degree, you will have to take the PRAXIS core exam within the first year of enrollment into the program.
    • Applicants who have not taken the PRAXIS Core may submit one of the following: SAT scores of 1100 or better from 1995 to present; a combined score of 1000 prior to 1994; ACT score of 24; GRE composite of 1000
  • International students must also follow the international student admissions processes.
  • We will ordinarily accept students to the M.A.T. program who reside in MD, PA, VA, DE, NJ, and DC. Applications of students from other states will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Essay Requirements


Please write a two to three page double-spaced essay discussing one of the following:

  1. What are your professional goals, and how will this program help you achieve them?
  2. Write a brief autobiography highlighting the experiences that have been important in shaping your goals.
  3. What do you think is the most significant problem in education today? How would you recommend alleviating this problem?

MASTER OF EDUCATION AND POST-MASTER'S PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (PD) CERTIFICATES (Non-Cohort Students)

Note: post-master's certificate students are not eligible to transfer graduate credits into the certificate program.
