Phi Beta Kappa Ceremony
The ceremony is an annual celebration to induct and celebrate the achievements of Goucher students elected to join the Beta of Maryland Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.
About Phi Beta Kappa
Founded in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa has recognized the outstanding academic achievements of students while supporting the value of critical inquiry and advocating for the broad education offered by the liberal arts. Only 10 percent of U.S. colleges and universities have Phi Beta Kappa chapters. These chapters select the top 10 percent of their graduates to join Phi Beta Kappa, making Phi Beta Kappa membership one of the most prestigious honors a student can receive.
The Induction Ceremony
Phi Beta Kappa members of the Goucher faculty and staff lead the induction ceremony. In addition to welcoming remarks by President Devereaux and Provost Elaine Meyer-Lee, Mary Hyman and Bill Leslie of the Phi Beta Kappa Alumni Association of Greater Baltimore addressed inductees and provided information on joining the regional association.
