Letter to Alumnae & Alumni, March 13, 2020
Dear Alumnae/i Community:
We are writing today to inform you about the status of Goucher College as everyone
responds to COVID-19/Coronavirus. President Kent Devereaux announced a temporary shift to online classes (through March 29) as well as restrictions on
college events and travel. You can visit the college’s dedicated website for the most current information. If you still have questions, email alumni@goucher.edu. Please recognize this is a quickly changing situation, and an answer may take time
as the college prioritizes the needs of students, faculty, and staff.
The AAGC recognizes the difficulty of this situation, and we are working with the
administration and the Board of Trustees on issues that affect alumnae/i.
We have heard from several members of our community asking how they can help current
students. First—thank you to those who have reached out. Today, we have more socio-economically
vulnerable students than ever. We are working with the Office of Student Affairs and,
thanks to a lead gift from a trustee, have activated the Janet Cane Fisher ’38 Fund.
This fund is specifically set up for emergency student funds and will be used immediately
to help students with unexpected costs, such as travel home, lost wages, technology
access, and more. If you are looking for a way to support your alma mater right now,
please consider making a gift here.
We are working on other ways alumnae/i can support students. If you are interested
in being contacted when more information becomes available, please email alumni@goucher.edu.
Our thoughts and concerns are with our entire community as each one of you adjusts
to any needed changes in your personal and professional lives. Thank you for your
continued support of Goucher.
Sincerely,
