Letter to Alumnae & Alumni, March 18, 2020

Dear Alumnae/i Community,

As you may have heard by now, in response to the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic, Goucher College has moved to online classes for the rest of the semester and asked students not to return after spring break. You can read the full announcement and other response measures on the college’s dedicated website.

As a result of these decisions, there will be no Goucher events through May 16. Unfortunately, this means that Alumnae/i Weekend, Blue & Gold Weekend, Inauguration, lectures and concerts, Sage Academy for Lifelong Learning programs, and other college events are all canceled. When possible, we hope to be able to reschedule some activities later in the year, and the AAGC Board is involved in these conversations. Please know that these decisions were difficult, but made in the interest of the health of our community. The Office of Alumnae/i Affairs will be in touch in regards to issues such as refunds. In the meantime, our events website has the most up-to-date information.

We continue to work with the Office of Student Affairs to identify the immediate needs of students, including activating the Janet Cane Fisher ’38 Fund. This fund is designated for student emergencies and will be used immediately to bridge the gap for student needs in response to the crisis. If your current situation allows, please consider making a gift here. The college will also be drawing from the Greater Goucher Fund as needed throughout this evolving situation. Goucher's administration is working on an individual basis with impacted students, including transportation home for those initially staying on campus, travel for those who live or are studying abroad, and access to technology while off-campus.

We want to again thank the entire community for their patience and support. The situation is fluid, and these are indeed challenging times for everyone. We hope that you and your families are safe as we all adjust to this new normal.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Office of Alumnae/i Affairs at alumni@goucher.edu.

Best,

Jennifer Pawlo-Johnstone
