Program Goals

  1. Students move along with the intercultural continuum from tolerance to appreciation of host culture

  2. Students take measurable strides toward proficiency of language studies in host country including making adjustments to the variety of English spoken there

  3. Student demonstrate increased understanding of host culture's history, religion, and education system

  4. Student internalize knowledge, develop skills to navigate in a foreign environment, and refine attitudes about the world and themselves

  5. Students embrace the validity of different worldviews

  6. Students meet academic goals and demonstrate:

    • Disciplinary knowledge through possible new approaches to knowing
    • Substantive knowledge about people, society, and environment
    • Connection to knowledge acquired abroad to academic and co-curricular pursuits at Goucher
