COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update for Students
Dear Goucher Students:
The college continues to actively monitor the outbreak of the respiratory illness (COVID-19), caused by the novel coronavirus, and the Critical Incident Response Team continues to prepare for any potential impacts on our campus. As has been widely reported in the media over the past several hours, there have now been three positive COVID-19 tests in the State of Maryland.
With the Spring Break period ahead (March 14–22), we encourage students to take precautionary measures. Specifically, we are strongly encouraging students to reconsider any international travel, as well as extensive domestic travel, especially when such travel is to – or through – areas known to have COVID-19 outbreaks. We are further advising all students to remain diligent with their handwashing, to avoid large public gatherings, and to avoid close contact with persons who are ill. For students who wish to remain on campus during Spring Break but have not yet registered with Residential Life, you may still do so at this link. Students who miss the registration deadline of March 13 will not be subject to a fine, as previously advised. To accommodate students who wish to remain on campus, we are also considering a dining service option, should there be enough student interest. You can express your willingness to participate in a Spring Break dining plan at the above link, as well – please note that the deadline for doing so is Tuesday, March 10 at 2:00 pm.
The college has launched a Goucher coronavirus website, which will be updated with information regarding our preparations, actions, and available resources. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) offers a great deal of travel information online, and the Student Health Center staff is available to discuss questions and concerns with students.
