COVID-19 Updates

As promised, our spring reopening task force has continued to monitor local and state positivity levels in the hopes of welcoming back students for the final seven weeks of the spring semester.

I write with several updates regarding the spring semester. I've heard from numerous students and parents with questions and concerns regarding the spring academic calendar, the prospect for athletic competition, and a possible return to campus later in the semester.

Several students and parents have written to me to ask why Goucher College joined with the two other Landmark conference colleges and opted out of participating in winter season conference athletic competition. So, I thought I would outline for everyone the reasons for this decision.

We recognize that the move to remote instruction and the decision not to offer campus housing may create additional hardships for students. Some of you are in unsafe housing situations, are experiencing housing insecurity, and/or are facing extraordinary circumstances that may render you unable to successfully engage in academic study in your home.

Given Goucher’s decision to remain a non-residential college this spring, Student Financial Services has begun to adjust financial aid awards where necessary for those of you who had planned to reside on campus.
