    As we complete our second full week of undergraduate classes, I want to thank all our students, faculty, and staff for adhering to our COVID-19 vaccination policy and our return-to-campus mandatory face mask policy.

    At Goucher College, we are trying to minimize as much as possible any potential risk for community spread of COVID-19 on campus during the first two weeks of classes, with everyone returning to campus.

    As you may know, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) are tracking the outbreak of Monkeypox, which has been declared a public health emergency in the United States. As with all public health concerns, Goucher is monitoring this situation closely and working with local health officials to create a plan to contain possible cases that may arise on campus.

    We are eager to welcome all new and returning students, faculty, and staff to campus this fall. However, while there are many new, exciting aspects on campus this year, we are also still keenly aware of the impact of COVID-19 on our community. Therefore, it has been imperative for the COVID-19 Taskforce to continue monitoring changes and implement mitigating protocols based on the most recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance concerning isolation times, face masks, and other preventative measures.

    Due to the current de-densification of campus for the summer, the Taskforce has decided that effective immediately, the College will return to a mask optional policy. This updated policy is in effect through August 1, 2022.
