    We are writing to update you on the college’s decision to ask residential students to leave campus over Spring Break and the following week (March 22–29). As was also shared, we will move to online instruction for the week of March 23–27.

    As the President of Goucher College, the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff is always my number one concern. With this in mind, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, I am communicating today a number of decisions we have made that we believe are grounded in Goucher’s community principles and in the best interest of public health.

    The college continues to actively monitor the outbreak of the respiratory illness (COVID-19), caused by the novel coronavirus, and the Critical Incident Response Team continues to prepare for any potential impacts on our campus. As has been widely reported in the media over the past several hours, there have now been three positive COVID-19 tests in the State of Maryland.

    Goucher College is closely monitoring COVID-19 (coronavirus), and making preventative preparations, as well as preparations in response to a potential coronavirus outbreak. We are committed to the health and wellbeing of all Goucher employees, students, and visitors. As such, we are closely monitoring reports from local, regional, and national organizations (including the World Health Organization and American College Health Association), as well as neighboring colleges and universities and our educational partners abroad.
