Goucher Psychology Welcomes Two New Professors

The Psychology Department is thrilled to welcome two new professors.

Dr. Laura DeWyngaert (she/her), who joined us as an Assistant Professor of Practice in Fall 2022, earned her Ph.D. from UMBC in Applied Developmental Psychology. She is teaching Professional Development courses, Introduction to Psychology, Quantitative Research Methods in Psychology, and an upcoming Complex Problem Explorations (CPE) class entitled “T is for Tough Topics: Understanding Child Development through Sesame Street's Curriculum”. Dr. DeWyngaert recently presented her work at the Society for Research in Child Development conference in March, 2023, entitled “Does Print Literacy Fully Mediate the Relations of Motivation and Early Literacy to Internet Literacy?”. Laura DeWyngaert
Assistant Professor of Practice of Psychology

Laura DeWyngaert attended the applied developmental psychology master’s and Ph.D. programs at University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Her research interests involve educational contexts of development, more specifically literacy and reading comprehension. She has taught several psychology courses, including Introduction to Psychology, Lifespan Development, and Research Methods.

Amanda Draheim

Amanda Draheim
Assistant Professor of Psychology

Amanda Draheim was previously an assistant professor at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. She received her M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Georgia State University and completed a clinical internship at the Medical College of Georgia/Charlie Norwood Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center (Psychology of Women track) in Augusta, GA. Her clinical interests include treatment of adults with anxiety disorders, depression, and posttraumatic stress disorder using cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness-based, and feminist interventions. Her program of research focuses on testing cognitive-behavioral theories of mood, stress, and anxiety disorders and identifying mechanisms of treatment.
