M.A.C.L.M. Curriculum

Academic Requirements

The M.A. in Cultural Leadership & Management represents the evolution of our well-established M.A. in Cultural Sustainability, which has prepared culture workers since 2010. As we refine our curriculum for the MACLM framework launching in 2026-27, our core approach remains rooted in ethical leadership, community-centered practice, and applied cultural knowledge.

We're strengthening content in organizational leadership and management while maintaining our distinctive focus on working WITH communities and translating cultural understanding into effective practice.

The courses listed below represent our current offerings. Updated course descriptions aligned with MACLM learning outcomes will be available in Spring 2025. Questions? Contact Program Director Melanie Lytle at melanie.lytle@goucher.edu.

To earn the Master of Arts in Cultural Leadership & Management, students complete a minimum of 36 credits of required and elective courses. All students complete a six-credit capstone project in the field.

Courses are conducted online and during short residencies or field schools in July and January, allowing you to continue working while you pursue your degree regardless of your location. The low-residency component provides face-to-face interaction and fieldwork with faculty and other students in the program, building a community of practice that will carry into your career.
