The Sarah T. Hughes Field Politics Center
Funded by an endowment made by the late Judge Sarah T. Hughes '17, the Sarah T. Hughes Field Politics Center was originally founded in the early 1950s under a grant from the Maurice and Laura Falk Foundation.
The center, directed by Mileah Kromer, Ph.D., associate professor of political science, sponsors a variety of activities designed to facilitate student involvement in governmental and political affairs
The Hughes Center conducts the Goucher College Poll, which surveys citizens across Maryland on the most important political, social, and economic issues of the day.
Additionally, the Hughes Center sponsors the Training Ms. President and Conversations at the Hughes Center programs.
Training Ms. President is a candidate training workshop that connects female undergraduate students with women currently working in politics and serving in elected office. A joint program with Washington College, Hood College, and Mount St. Mary’s University, Training Ms. President seeks to help diminish the gender gap in elected office by providing a space to foster political ambition.
Conversations at the Hughes Center is a student moderated discussion with elected officials and political leaders. These Maryland politics and policy focused discussions are open to the public and organized by a team of students.
