“My experience at Goucher gave me the foundation to pursue work that connects global issues with local action. As a political science major with a double minor in environmental studies and German, I developed an interdisciplinary perspective that shaped how I think about policy, sustainability, and international contexts.”

Tell us about organizations, clubs, athletic teams, or other activities you participated in during your time at Goucher.

I was part of GISA and was an actor, run crew, and assistant stage manager for various plays.

Tell us about your career path.

After graduating from Goucher, I pursued an M.S. in environmental policy and justice at the University of Michigan, where my master’s project gave me my first real experience working on sustainability issues. After finishing the program, I worked at Target while searching for opportunities in the sustainability field. When that path didn’t work out as planned, I moved back home to France. Not long after, I was invited to join a list running in my commune’s municipal elections, with the understanding that I would serve on the city council if elected. We won, and I now serve on the council. I’m especially proud to contribute to my community by supporting residents and helping revive local environmental initiatives.

What experiences were most meaningful to you at Goucher, and what drew you to Goucher?

I was originally drawn to Goucher for the Equestrian Program and the strong emphasis on study abroad, especially having done horseback riding for a long time and having lived abroad for a long period of my life. As a dual citizen, GISA was an organization that was really meaningful to me as well, helping me connect with the international students on campus.

My experience at Goucher gave me the foundation to pursue work that connects global issues with local action. As a political science major with a double minor in environmental studies and German, I developed an interdisciplinary perspective that shaped how I think about policy, sustainability, and international contexts. Goucher also helped me build the critical thinking and communication skills that are essential for public service. Those experiences will guide me as a member of my commune’s municipal council in France.

What advice would you give to prospective or current students?

Goucher was a formative experience for me, and I wouldn’t change it for the world. My advice to prospective students is to take full advantage of everything the college and the city around it have to offer. Some of my favorite memories are connected to places on campus like the Athenaeum and Alice’s (which unfortunately no longer exists). I loved going to the Ath after dinner to work on assignments and taking a mid-session coffee break at Alice’s around 10 p.m. Those quiet study nights became a small but meaningful routine, and they’re some of the moments that defined my experience at Goucher.

I grew not only through my classes and campus events but also by exploring Baltimore and finding community beyond campus, especially through the dance community at Mobtown Ballroom. For current students preparing for life after college, I’d say it’s OK if your plans change. I had a very clear idea of what my career path would look like, and it was difficult when things didn’t unfold the way I expected after graduation.

One book that has stayed with me for years is The Master and Margarita, by Mikhail Bulgakov, which I first read in high school. It’s a strange, unforgettable novel that mixes satire, philosophy, and the surreal in a way that has always stuck with me. I recently watched the Russian film adaptation and loved seeing the story interpreted on screen.

A fun fact about me is that I’m also a big gamer. I love playing on my Steam Deck and trying different kinds of games. Right now, I’m excited to start playing Slay the Spire 2, and I’m really looking forward to Subnautica 2 coming out since I loved exploring the world of the original game.
