“What started as an effort to turn around a community center in a heavily disinvested neighborhood, struggling to keep its doors open, has blossomed into three organizations leading a $600 million community development effort, which is now being recognized as a national example of inclusive development.”

Tell us about organizations, clubs, athletic teams, or other activities you participated in at Goucher.

I was captain of both the men’s soccer and basketball teams. I formerly served as the chair of the Blue & Gold Advisory Board. I was the recipient of the Marguerite Barland ’60 Merit Award in 2022.

Tell us about your career path.

My career in the social sector started when I was 14 as a camp counselor at my local Boys & Girls Club, which continued every summer until Goucher. Coincidentally, I continued this work as I worked on campus with inner-city youth from Baltimore at reading enrichment camps and sports camps.

When I returned home after college, I started a nonprofit mentoring program for student athletes and served as the executive director for 10 years. I then returned to the Boys & Girls Club from 2014 to 2016, when I left to work at Kingswood Community Center.

What experiences were most meaningful to you at Goucher?

Being a part of the soccer and basketball teams had a tremendous impact on my journey. The skills I learned from being a part of teams with so many guys from diverse backgrounds, all working toward one goal, provided me with a perspective that I use to this day to lead my teams.

What advice would you give to prospective or current students?

My advice to current students would be to take school seriously, but take the relationships you make even more seriously. Your success in the world will be paved by your relationships. If you treat relationships as transformational, not transactional, you will go far in this world.

How do you stay connected with your alma mater?

My favorite alumni event has been the basketball game, although I have not played in a while. I love to see my former teammates and the current team because I can relate to their current experience. It is nostalgic to relive it every year.

I started a modeling career during my last semester because of a relationship I made while in college. That led to a constellation of relationships that eventually led to my current job.
