3+2 Dual Degree in Engineering
AI Engineer at Google

“I was initially drawn to Goucher by the men’s soccer program and the 3+2 dual-degree engineering track in partnership with Johns Hopkins and Columbia University. Throughout my time there, Coach Bryan Laut and several professors in the Physics and Mathematics departments were instrumental in guiding my journey and ensuring I successfully completed the program on schedule.”

Tell us about your career path.

My professional trajectory began at the intersection of health care and technology. After completing internships during my 3+2 dual-degree program at Goucher and Columbia University, I founded an AI startup in graduate school focused on building machine learning tools for gastroenterologists. When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted that venture, I pivoted into enterprise engineering, joining JPMorgan Chase & Co. as an AI/ML engineer. I subsequently expanded my technical expertise into cybersecurity as a software engineer at Amazon Web Services (AWS), before transitioning to Google Cloud as a forward deployed AI engineer specializing in generative AI. Throughout this journey, my core focus has been engineering scalable AI products and owning complex systems end-to-end. Navigating these diverse industry verticals within matrixed organizations has required deep collaboration across cross-functional teams. I have anchored my career on three core pillars: resilience, resourcefulness, and adaptability. Most recently, I led a high-visibility initiative for Citi, spearheading the launch of Citi Sky—an AI-powered assistant designed to revolutionize wealth management for their clients. This enterprise-scale project received significant C-suite exposure and earned widespread industry recognition, featuring prominently in major financial and tech publications.

What experiences were most meaningful to you at Goucher?

Studying abroad through Goucher immersed me in art, culture, music, and history, stretching my STEM-focused perspective to embrace new ways of thinking. This experience cultivated a global mindset that directly informs my professional decision-making and enriches how I engage in diverse social settings.

Tell us about organizations, clubs, athletic teams, or other activities you participated in at Goucher.

I was initially drawn to Goucher by the men’s soccer program and the 3+2 dual-degree engineering track in partnership with Johns Hopkins and Columbia University. Throughout my time there, Coach Bryan Laut and several professors in the Physics and Mathematics departments were instrumental in guiding my journey and ensuring I successfully completed the program on schedule. Beyond academics and athletics, I was also an active member of Hillel and the Physics and Astronomy Club.

What advice would you give to prospective or current students?

Maintain balance: Work hard, but don’t forget to experience life outside the classroom. Networking is vital, but it shouldn’t feel transactional. Focus instead on expanding your social circle; building a diverse community of peers will enrich your life long after graduation. Finally, prioritize fluency in a second language—it is one of the most powerful tools you can give yourself.
