Tell us about how you got involved on campus.

While attending Goucher as a student, 1976-1980, I was actively involved as president of the Black Student Association (BSA), resident assistant at Gallagher House, and Goucher tour guide; organized the student leadership conference and BSA’s first Fashion Show and Halloween Party; spoke to the Board of Trustees; and received the Martha A. Nichols Award for service to the Goucher community.

Presently, as an involved alumni leader, I am a member/sponsor of the Jewell Robinson Dinner Committee and Imani Fund, selected to Alumnae & Alumni of Goucher College (AAGC) Board of Directors and Executive Committee as the annual giving officer, a supporter of the Goucher Prison Education Partnership (GPEP), and recently elected as the vice chair of the Black and African American Affinity Alumni Group (BAAAAG).

Tell us about your career path.

My fulfilling career path after graduating from Goucher and receiving a B.A. in mathematics in 1980 began with the Department of the Navy, Air Traffic Control Branch, as a software programmer for Naval Aircraft Carriers, and progressed to the position of software manager. I was interviewed by a fellow graduate of the class of 1980, Sue Postman, and I believed the job was mine. Upon receiving my master of science in computer science (M.S.C.S.) in 1990, I was hired as a computer scientist for DOT/FAA/Facilities Group. My legacy was solidified as a senior leader with full oversight for establishing and implementing strategic visions, organizational initiatives, budgets, and risk-based metrics for up to $2.5 billion air traffic control facilities and systems programs/projects. The skills I received from Goucher—logical thinking, confidence in my abilities, risk-taking, collaborating with and caring for others, and commitment to excellence—helped shape my career.

Share a favorite Goucher memory.

While at Goucher, one of my favorite memories was the lifelong friendship I formed with three other students: Katrina Cole Turner ’77, Hannah Gaylord Woodard ’77, and Valerie McClain Tate ’78. Our friendship was based on trust, inspiring each other to succeed, and laughter, and we created a brand for ourselves, the Goucherettes. 50 years later, in 2026, we are having lunch to continue our journey of love, respect, and bonding as Goucherettes.

How has your Goucher education empowered you to make a difference in your community, field, or the world?

My Goucher education empowered me to become a shepherd leader, with the faith that I can be a change agent one step at a time. For example, I was applying for my first car loan. Although I had a great job, the bank required my father to co-sign. As I defended my ability to handle my payments on my own, it wasn’t until I mentioned I graduated from Goucher that my loan was approved. I knew then that God had put me on the path of success by graduating from Goucher. This opened my eyes to helping others succeed, no matter what obstacles arise. Believe in yourself by demonstrating you can inspire others to believe in themselves.

What advice would you give to current students preparing for life after college?

The advice I would give to current students preparing for life after college is to be true to your calling. Some decisions will be based on data, but my best decisions were based on my passion and what came naturally to me.

What’s a fun fact about yourself, or something most people would be surprised to know about you?

One of my natural characteristics is learning. As such, my next career-to-calling is acceptance into the Doctor of Ministry in Strategic Leadership Program at Lancaster Bible College, Lancaster, PA, starting in August 2026 and completing in May 2029.
