Update From Graduate Programs at The Welch Center
What’s New:
Creative and innovative ideas are generating excitement at The Welch Center! More than 100 Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts students, faculty, guest speakers, and workshop leaders met for our seven-day January residency that included classes, seminars, discussion panels, and the airing of a documentary film about three Liberian women.
Nearly 700 Master of Education and Master of Arts in Teaching students are engaging in spring courses, preparing classroom and resource teachers, as well as administrators to push the limits for best practice in teaching and learning. Fully online M.Ed. and M.A.T. programs begin next fall, and are being marketed to new groups of students seeking online delivery given their location, family commitments, and work responsibilities.
New 2018-2019 initiatives include:
- Online master's programs;
- Adult undergraduate degree completion programs;
- Lifelong learning classes for those in the 55+ community; and
- Skill-enhancement professional development programs for leaders, volunteers, and staff in non-profit organizations.

This workshop is designed for people who want to feel more comfortable with the idea of making public presentations and speeches. With tools and tips to help reduce the anxiety that often comes with public speaking, it promises to be fun, safe, and nonthreatening.

Did You Know:
The Welch Center graduates apply their degrees across a myriad of disciplines, including leadership in the arts, in schools, and in advocacy for communities and cultures—sometimes blurring the boundaries where humanities, technology, and social science intersect. Five books were published this year by Nonfiction students and alumni, and one may become a television series! A group of Cultural Sustainability students are headed to Bosnia under a partial grant, and one of our program directors will visit Nepal later this month to explore culture and community. Another director presented at a French Digital Arts conference, and 80 prospective education graduates will present capstone action research projects in April.
