Eight New Faculty Members Join Goucher College

Goucher College welcomes eight new faculty members this fall semester. Bringing new perspectives and extensive backgrounds in research and teaching to their roles, these faculty members will provide exceptional educational and transformational experiences to Goucher’s students.

Carla Barqueiro

Carla Barqueiro
Assistant Professor of International Relations
Director of the Sarah T. Hughes Center for Politics

Carla Barqueiro was previously an assistant professor of political science and international relations at Widener University, where she taught courses on topics like foreign governments and politics, globalization and social change, and current issues in world affairs. She has research and policy experience on international peace and security, including the prevention of conflict and mass atrocities. She has a Ph.D. in international politics from Aberystwyth University and an M.A. and B.A. in sociology from McGill University.


Mohammad Naderi Dehkordi

Mohammad Naderi Dehkordi
Associate Professor of Computer Science

Mohammad Dehkordi is a data scientist whose research interests include artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data privacy. He was a visiting professor in the Department of Computer Science at Dickinson College before coming to Goucher and taught at Azad University in Iran before that. He has a Ph.D. and M.S. in computer science from Azad University and a B.S. in computer science from Isfahan University of Technology.


Stefanie Kasparek

Stefanie Kasparek
Assistant Professor of Data Science
Director of the M.A. in Applied Policy Analysis Program

Stefanie Kasparek was previously a visiting assistant professor in the Political Science Department at Albright College and the senior data analyst for the Franklin & Marshall Global Barometer of Gay Rights. Her research and teaching interests are in the areas of international organizations, international political institutions and decision-making, quantitative methodology, and formal modeling. She received a Ph.D. and M.A. in political science from Temple University and an M.A. in American studies/political science/international law from Tuebingen University, Germany.


Adjetey Klufio

Adjetey Klufio
Assistant Professor of Dance

Adjetey Klufio is an experienced dancer, choreographer, and professor who is the founder of Afro’ndani and co-founder of Osagyefo Dance Company. His teaching emphasizes inclusive pedagogy, interactive learning, mentoring and collaboration, and critical thinking and problem-solving. He has an M.F.A. in choreography from Wilson College and a B.F.A. in dance performance and choreography from Towson University. Previously, he was an assistant professor of dance at Coker University and the dance director at Anne Arundel Community College.


Jonathan Lawton

Jonathan Lawton
Assistant Professor of Public Health

Jonathan Lawton is interested in the distribution, determinants, and dynamics of infectious diseases. He has a Ph.D. in molecular epidemiology from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and a B.S. in molecular biology from the College of William & Mary. He has taught public health classes in Kenya and was previously a guest lecturer at Stevenson University. He is experienced in biostatistics and statistical programming as well as bioinformatics and big data, including genomics, transcriptomics, and serological profiling.


Nikolas Stasulli

Nikolas Stasulli
Associate Professor of Biological Sciences

Nikolas Stasulli has a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.S. in biochemistry and molecular biology from Ursinus College. He previously taught in the Department of Biology and Environmental Science at the University of New Haven. His background includes microbiology, genomics and bioinformatics, molecular biology, and immunology. As a professor, he emphasizes engaging pedagogy, curricular development and improvement, equity in the classroom, and accessible and adaptable research.


Fatima Wardy

Fatima Wardy
Visiting Assistant Professor of Digital Arts

Fatima Wardy is a Sudanese writer-director whose films navigate themes of matriarchy, displacement, and diasporic memory. Wardy previously taught at the University of Texas at Austin, and her academic interests include contemporary African cinema, the short film medium, and the symbiotic relationship between fiction and nonfiction. She has an M.F.A. in film and media production from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.A.Sc. in arts and sciences with a cultures major from University College London.


Wei Wei

Wei Wei
Associate Professor of Chemistry

Wei Wei has a Ph.D. in chemistry from Texas A&M University and a B.S. in chemistry from Wuhan University. He has taught at Texas A&M, Alma College, and Franklin College, with courses in chemistry, thermodynamics and kinetics, quantum chemistry and spectroscopy, and more. His research has involved a home-built Raman spectrometer, studying VUV photodissociation dynamics of carbon dioxide, and improving data analysis method.
