Alumna Uses Study Abroad Experiences to Pursue a Career in Medicine
Kelly Budge ’18 was featured in ASBMB Today for creating a chapter of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) at Goucher as well as for her research accomplishments and endeavors to become a doctor.
Kelly Budge ’18 left as much a mark on Goucher as her college experiences have left on her.
Before leaving Goucher, her study abroad experience at a clinic in a remote town in Kenya inspired her to improve maternal and newborn health. The biochemistry and molecular biology major is enrolled in a master’s program at the University of Liverpool. Budge plans to attend medical school where she hopes to study obstetric care, which focuses on pregnancy and childbirth.
While at Goucher, Budge founded a chapter of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) and was inducted into the ASBMB honor society this summer. She served as president for a year, and helped create and present 3-D models of proteins at the ASBMB national conference in San Diego.
