Goucher College Student Counseling Center Receives Excellence in Mental Health and Well-Being Award
Insight Into Academia nationally recognized institutions that commit to campus-wide integration of mental health initiatives, including accessible services, peer support, emotional resilience, and proactive policy.
Goucher College’s Student Counseling Center received the 2025 Excellence in Mental
Health and Well-Being Award from Insight Into Academia magazine, the largest and oldest
diversity and inclusion publication in higher education. The Excellence in Mental
Health and Well-Being Award is a measure of an institution’s individual programs and
initiatives that significantly advance the core values of inclusive excellence and
belonging through programs, initiatives, and many other campus priorities deserving
of this national recognition.
Goucher College will be featured, along with 70 other recipients, in the September 2025 issue of Insight Into Academia magazine.
“Goucher College is extremely proud to be recognized as an institution that supports Mental Health and Well-Being for our entire college community,” says Tim Moslener, director of student counseling at Goucher College. “Goucher College has helped destigmatize students asking for help with their overall wellness through providing counseling, wellness, and health services, and social activities to boost a sense of connectedness. This also extends to staff and faculty through our Human Resources department, encouraging members to take part in Wellness Days and to acknowledge that it is vital for all members of the community to prioritize their own mental health and well-being.”
Insight Into Academia magazine selected Goucher College’s Student Counseling Center because of its robust mental health and well-being services, programs, and events that include all campus members. In addition to student counseling services, case management, and a 24/7 crisis line, the college also offers a free store (clothing and small items donated by students) and food pantry in residence halls, a commuter pantry, and the Janet Cane Fisher fund with our Student Support + Outreach office for emergencies with food, family, travel, health, and natural disasters.
Goucher also provides professional development and wellness days featuring workshops, yoga, Pilates, acupuncture, walking challenges, chair massages, equine therapy, and various training sessions. Faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in these activities to support well-being and personal development. Employees receive 8 hours of paid leave annually to engage in community service. Yearly programming on topics such as suicide prevention, disordered eating, finding ways to create joy, general mental health awareness, and mental health training for staff, faculty, and student staff which includes managing students who are at-risk for suicidality and how to utilize campus supports that includes our after-hours crisis hotline.
“We know that institutions are not always recognized for their dedication to their mental health and well-being services and support for their students and employees,” says Lenore Pearlstein, owner and publisher of Insight Into Academia magazine. “We are proud to honor these colleges and universities as role models for other institutions of higher education.”
