Goucher College and Johns Hopkins University announce new partnership

Goucher College and Johns Hopkins University have announced an agreement to create an entry pathway for Goucher undergraduate students pursuing a master’s degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing.

Beginning in Fall 2022, this program linkage will offer Goucher students a dedicated program liaison and chief advisor through the graduate school admissions process for the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree.

“We are excited to build on our strong partnerships with Johns Hopkins University to provide additional pathways for Goucher students to expand their education and career opportunities in the field of nursing, which is in such demand,” said Elaine Meyer-Lee, Goucher College provost and senior vice president of academic affairs. “Goucher’s unique liberal arts curriculum emphasizes exploration and complex problem solving to prepare our students to succeed across disciplines, including pursuing graduate programs in science and medicine.”

Much like Goucher’s broad approach to interdisciplinary education, the Johns Hopkins MSN program emphasizes leadership, global impact, quality and safety, and evidence-based interprofessional education. Students admitted to the program learn from a framework that integrates the humanities, public health, genetics, and physical and organizational sciences into nursing practice.

Johns Hopkins School of Nursing Dean Sarah Szanton said, “We are thrilled to partner with Goucher which produces such independent and creative thinkers.”

Goucher’s undergraduate experience is rooted in an innovative core curriculum and majors, integrated global experience, and internship accelerator to help prepare students to tackle society’s most pressing issues. Each Goucher student also has a student success team supporting them throughout their undergraduate experience.

In addition to a Goucher bachelor’s degree in any discipline, candidates must complete 17-20 credits (grade B or better) of prerequisite coursework from an accredited college or university in Anatomy with lab, Human Growth and Development Through the Lifespan, Microbiology with lab, Nutrition, Physiology with lab, and Statistics.
