Goucher celebrates International Education Week with Global Coffee Hour and other events

International Education Week, held from Nov. 15-19, recognizes the benefits of a global education and exchange. Goucher is celebrating with a host of events.

It’s International Education Week, and Goucher College is proud to celebrate its students around the globe. With a 100% study abroad requirement, global exchange programs, and student body made up of individuals from 21 countries, Goucher students are given the global advantage they need to be engaged in the world at large.

International Education Week, a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, is celebrated Nov. 15-19 and recognizes the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide.

During the pandemic, to help connect international students studying from their home countries, the college began hosting a weekly conversation called the Global Coffee Hour.

This fall, the Global Coffee Hour has expanded to include all Goucher students, providing a space for international and American students to engage with each other around topics such as international cuisine, stereotypes, health care in the U.S., and more.

The next Global Coffee Hour will be held during International Education Week, Friday, November 19, at 11 a.m. in Pinkard, Athenaeum, Room 426. The conversation will feature Tien (Vietnam), Tasos (Greece), Nicco (Colombia), Ali (United Arab Emirates), and Nadean (Ghana), who will talk about their experience in the early days of COVID and these various countries approached mitigation strategies. In addition, participants will be encouraged to reflect on the role culture played in these public health decisions.
