Remembering Professor Emerita Marianne Githens

A special memorial service has been planned by members of the Goucher community to remember and celebrate the life of Professor Emerita Dr. Marianne Githens on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at 9 a.m. The program, which should last about an hour, will take place in the Haebler Memorial Chapel. All friends of the college who would like to attend are welcome.

Beloved by generations of students, Githens had a long career at Goucher College, where she had a strong hand in shaping the community that we are today. A pioneering scholar in the field of women in politics, she spent many years as chair of the Political Science Program and was a co-founder of the Women’s Studies Program. Githens died Tuesday, February 27, of natural causes at the age of 83. 

Donations are now being accepted for the DR. MARIANNE GITHENS SCHOLARSHIP FUND, which will be awarded to a student pursuing Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies.
