New Student Convocation

The New Student Convocation is an Academic College Welcome to the new incoming class and a brief informal opportunity for faculty to connect with students and their parents.

Date & Time

The Class of 2027 New Student Convocation will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 4 p.m.

Location

The New Student Convocation ceremony will be held in Kraushaar Auditorium which is 4a on the Campus Map.

Instructions for the Class of 2027

Students will gather to process at 3:30 p.m. at the Library. The Library is 2 on the Campus Map.

The procession will start at 3:50 p.m. guided by Student Marshals.

Convocation will start promptly at 4 p.m. at Kraushaar Auditorium. 

From 4-4:30 pm, the President’s Party will offer Welcomes and brief Remarks.

From 4:30-5 pm, the class of 2027 will process on stage to receive cords and sign the Community Principles. The ceremony will end with the Goucher community singing the Goucher song, We are Goucher.

The Recession will start at 5 p.m.: First the President Party will exit the Auditorium. Then, faculty and staff, followed by the class of 2027 and finally, family and friends. 

Instructions for Families & Friends

Convocation will start promptly at 4 p.m. at Kraushaar Auditorium 4a on the Campus Map.

The Recession will start at 5 p.m. Please, remain seated until the President Party, faculty and staff, and the class of 2027 have all exited the auditorium. 

Instructions for Faculty & Staff

Faculty and staff participating in the Processional, the Presidential Party, and Marshals will assemble in academic robes at 3:30 p.m. at the Chapel for the Convocation Procession.

The Procession will start at 3:50 p.m. guided by Faculty Marshals.

Convocation will start promptly at 4 p.m. at Kraushaar Auditorium. 

Post Ceremony Activities

We know the class of 2027 and their families and friends will be excited to see faculty and staff. Immediately following the ceremony, students and guests may briefly visit with faculty and staff. There will be light refreshments at the Dorsey Courtyard and five tables for the five academic centers:

  1. Education
  2. Humanities & Interdisciplinary Studies
  3. Natural, Computer & Data Sciences
  4. Social Sciences
  5. Writing, Arts & Media
