COVID-19 Testing

Goucher College understands the critical role COVID-19 testing will play in the return to campus plan. As such, the College has planned a comprehensive dual-modality approach to testing. It features a combination of wastewater (sewage) testing and RT-PCR (Reverse-Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) saliva-based testing.

Because Goucher is well situated for wastewater testing at the campus and building level, this method can provide data from many people, act as an early warning system, and offer low concern for false negatives. Additionally, implementing the saliva-based RT-PCR testing will allow for finding and isolating positive cases of COVID-19.

The comprehensive COVID-19 Testing Plan includes details on pre-arrival, post-arrival, symptomatic, and close contacting testing.

Students who develop any symptoms consistent with COVID-19 must contact the Student Health Center immediately and quarantine in their room until they receive further instructions.  The Student Health Center determines the need for COVID-19 testing and performs testing accordingly.

The Student Health Center has both rapid and PCR tests available.  PCR tests are sent to a local lab and the student’s insurance is billed, consistent with all lab testing performed in the SHC.
