Transfer Foreign Language Credits
All students coming to Goucher must first take a foreign language (FL) placement exam, even if they have taken college-level language classes at another institution. Depending on their FL placement, they will complete one of the four platforms. AP scores do not transfer as FLC credit.
Placements and Transfer Credits for New Students
If a student places into platform one, they will get no transfer credits.
If a student places into platform two, only one course worth of credits (typically 3 or 4) will be transferred.
If a student places into platform three, only two courses worth of credits (typically 6 or 8) will be transferred.
Students who place beyond 130 enter at platform four: they will need to take a 200 or 300 course in the language to complete the FLCR. They may transfer up to three courses worth of graduation credits (typically 9 or 12).
If courses are taken at other institutions after starting at Goucher:
If a student wants to finish the FLCR at another institution after having taken:
110 at Goucher, they will have to complete a minimum of 6 additional credits at the 120 and 130 levels.
110 and 120 at Goucher, they will have to complete a minimum of 2 additional credits at the 130 level.
only 120 at Goucher, they will have to complete a minimum of 4 additional credits at the 130 level.
only 130 at Goucher, they will have to complete a minimum of 4 additional credits at the 200 level.
Students wishing to fulfill the FLCR by studying a language not offered at Goucher need the approval of the Director of the Center for the Study of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures (CSMLLC). The same platform table as for languages offered at Goucher applies.
