A Message from Presidential Search Committee Co-Chairs
Dear Members of the Goucher Community,
We understand the interest and concern by the College community in the search for our next president and its importance to the future of our College. The Presidential Search Committee (PSC) was appointed by the Chair of the Board and its members approved by the Executive Committee. The PSC at its first meeting was charged by the Chair of the Board with the charge approved by the Executive Committee as required by the by-laws. The PSC will prepare and share updates as this process proceeds. The updates will be shared with the campus community and also posted on the Goucher College Presidential Search website.
We are pleased to report that we have completed two important steps: the selection of the committee members and the hiring of search consultants. We are grateful to the members of the committee for their insight, perspectives, and dedication to our College. We recognize the important work ahead. A listing of the membership can be found on the Goucher College Presidential Search website. Isaacson, Miller has been engaged to manage the search process. Isaacson, Miller is one of the most highly regarded national executive search firms. Rebecca Swartz and Chloe Kanas will serve as the firm’s co-consultants and will provide the counsel for the PSC’s work throughout the course of the search. There is an important component of this process that we wish to bring to your attention. After careful consideration and with the strong counsel of Isaacson Miller, the search will be conducted on a confidential basis. Only through a confidential process can we build a deep and diverse pool of candidates. Each member of the PSC and the support staff understand this concept and have signed a confidentiality agreement. The Board of Trustees is in agreement with this process. This means that when you ask a PSC member a question about the Search Process they will say to you that they cannot answer your question and hope that you will understand that all public information is available on the Goucher College Presidential Search website.
We anticipate and are encouraging engagement from all constituencies for insight and opinions. In recognition of the value of all members of the Goucher College community, we will build an inclusive schedule of listening sessions. The schedule will include opportunities for students, faculty, staff, alumnae/i, trustees and administrators to speak with the consultants. More information on these opportunities including the schedule will be shared on the Presidential Search Website shortly. We have also created an online survey to elicit insight from anyone who is not able to join us in person.
In an effort to answer any question about the search and the process, we have posted Frequently Asked Questions and the nature of confidential searches on the Goucher College Presidential Search website.
