Jazz Music

Our supportive, professional faculty offers students of varying levels, ages 13-18, a comprehensive program in jazz studies with courses in improvisation, jazz theory, composition, musicianship, and jazz history. Students will play in  small combos and large ensembles and receive private instrumental instruction, expanding their experience and understanding of jazz with Master classes and jam sessions.  A final concert will showcase the students’ progress as jazz musicians.

Placement and Audition Information
Jazz Program Orientation and Placement Audition will be held on Sunday, July 10th at 2:30pm in Merrick Lecture Hall.

All jazz participants are required to attend so the program director can be informed of the student's interests, goals, and skill level.

The audition will be part interview, and part performance.

Please come prepared to play one piece or excerpt of a piece no longer than 5 minutes in length on the instrument of your choice.

Your selection may be in any style, not limited to jazz.  Improvisation is optional.

Your audition piece should show your highest level of ability on your instrument.  So, come to impress!
