Junior Year: Core Coursework

Fall Spring

Developmental Biology, Biochemistry or Math Requirement can be fulfilled by the end of the year.

This will be a very busy year in other ways. You will need to:

  • Work with the Premed Committee to educate yourself about the specifics of applying to medical school. There will be a number of meetings in the fall and spring and an interview with the Premed Committee at the end of the year.
  • You need to review and prepare for the MCAT which is usually taken at the end of the spring semester.  You will register on line in January for the MCAT.  We do offer a MCAT review over the course of the junior year at no charge.
  • Premedical Internship during the January break if not already completed.
  • You will apply to medical schools using the on line AAMCAS application.  You will need to complete this application by the end of June. as you will apply during the summer following your junior year.
  • Decide where to apply to medical school.  You will meet with the premedical advisor to discuss an appropiate application strategy.

Senior Year:

  • Finish coursework for major.
  • Independent Research (if possible).
  • Practice medical shool interview with a member of the premed committee.
  • Hopefully interview at medical schools. You will need to do your homework before the interviews.
  • If you are having trouble gaining admission meet with the Premed Advisor before the end of the year to reassess the situation.

Finally, you can also apply at the end of your senior year, but as you can see from above there is a one year lag time from the time you apply until you enter medical school.
