Biology is not merely a collection of facts but a process of discovery.

The goal of the biological sciences faculty is to promote scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and intellectual maturity in our students through a rigorous curriculum which explores the major disciplines in biology and examines both the diversity of life and the functional aspects of living systems. Each course provides a framework for examining the scientific process as a means to master current knowledge and to provide a basis to address problems of the future.

    Wallops Island Field Trip
During October 19-21, students in Prof. Cynthia Kicklighter’s Field Ecology Laboratory class took a field trip to Wallops Island, VA where they stayed at the Wallops Island Marine Science Consortium. Students enthusiastically identified and investigated the plants, animals, and seaweeds found in salt marsh and mudflat habitats. During a break from all their hard work, the group went for a hike on Assateague Island, where they saw wild ponies.
