Protecting Your System from the MS03-039 (824146) Vulnerability
Protecting your system will require that you patch your system with appropriate updates to protect it from any infection. At this time there are no known viruses or worms that exploit this vulnerability, but it is critical that all systems are patched to ensure the stability of the campus network.
This only affects systems running Microsoft Windows NT 4, 2000 or XP. Macintosh systems, Linux systems, and systems running Windows 95, 98, or ME are not affected.
Personal/Home Computers (Not owned by Goucher College):
If you are using a personal computer which is running Windows NT 4, 2000 or XP, we recommend the following:
for Windows NT 4 (must be running at least Service Pack 6a): www.goucher.edu/infotech/uploads/WindowsNT4Workstation-KB824146-x86-ENU.EXE
for Windows 2000 (must be running at least Service Pack 2): www.goucher.edu/infotech/uploads/Windows2000-KB824146-x86-ENU.exe
for Windows XP: www.goucher.edu/infotech/uploads/WindowsXP-KB824146-x86-ENU.exe
(Optional, but recommended) Install all of the latest Critical Updates for your operating system. This can be done by visiting http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com, choosing to Scan for Updates, and selecting and installing important Critical Updates.
