Dr. Ratrie is a cell biologist by training, with an extensive research and publication record. Following postdoctoral studies at Johns Hopkins University, he was an instructor at that institution before arriving at Goucher, where his teaching talents were obvious. His moniker, "Renaissance Man", is well deserved, as he teaches a wide variety of courses in the undergraduate program (Biological Diversity, Cell Biology, Genetics) as well as in the post-baccalaureate Biology I and II courses. He has led innumerable expeditions to caves in West Virginia and gives occasional seminars on bat biology and herpetology.
