What Are E-Cigarettes?

Release date: October 23, 2009 |

Ever heard of e-cigarettes?  We hadn’t either, but some members of the campus community have asked if they are covered by the college smoking policy.  As you probably know, Goucher does not permit smoking in any Goucher vehicle or any campus building, and also prohibits smoking within 25 feet of any campus building. As you may not know, e-cigarettes are battery-operated devices that look like conventional cigarettes, typically contain cartridges of nicotine and other chemicals, and simulate smoking by creating vapor for the user to inhale.

Goucher’s College Council has asked for input from students, faculty, and staff on whether e-cigarettes should be treated like conventional smoking under the college’s  policy. To that end, please take a minute to complete a Goucher E-Cigarette survey by Friday, November 6.  There are only three questions, so it really will be that quick.  Thanks for responding to the survey!
