Elisa Koehler enjoys a versatile musical career as a conductor, trumpeter, and scholar. As an Assistant Professor of Music at Goucher College she conducts the Goucher Chamber Symphony and teaches Introduction to Music, Fundamentals of Music, and Music of Rebellion (Frontiers Seminar) as well as private lessons in conducting and trumpet.  In addition to her work at Goucher college, Dr. Koehler serves as Music Director and Conductor of The Frederick Orchestra and plays trumpet with the Lyric Brass Quintet, past winners of the Baltimore Chamber Music Competition.  Also active in historic performance, she plays natural trumpet and cornett with the Orchestra of the 17th Century, the Washington Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble, Modern Musick, and the Bach Sinfonia.  A frequent contributor to the International Trumpet Guild Journal, her articles on the natural trumpet (March 2002) and Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto (January 2003) have garnered international acclaim.  Dr. Koehler earned degrees from the Peabody Conservatory (B.M., B.M.E., D.M.A.) and the University of Tennessee (M.M.), and has studied at the Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute.  Her major teachers include Wayne Cameron (trumpet), Cathy Leach (trumpet), John Spitzer (musicology) and Frederik Prausnitz (conducting).
