H1N1 Flu Updates

August 27, 2009

A Message to Goucher Parents:

As Goucher opens its doors to new and returning students for the Fall 2009 semester, we want to make sure all of you have the most up-date-information regarding H1N1 flu, also known as the swine flu. Goucher's Pandemic Flu Task Force has been meeting regularly since last spring to plan for possible outbreaks of the H1N1 flu.

Although the virus spreads quickly, we have not yet seen large numbers of severe cases in this country. According to the Centers for Disease Control, most people who contract the H1N1 flu suffer relatively mild symptoms, comparable with those of the seasonal flu. Still, Goucher College wants its faculty, students, and staff to be prepared in case there is an outbreak.

To that end, the Pandemic Flu Task Force has created a series of FAQ's for faculty, staff, and students. Here are the Student FAQ's: http://www.goucher.edu/x37020.xml.

We ask that you continue to take the following precautions:

  • Always cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, and dispose of the tissue immediately. If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your sleeve rather than your hand.
  • Wash your hands often and thoroughly with soap and water. Alcohol-based cleansers are also effective.
  • To prevent the spread of germs, avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.

We will continue to update you as necessary. For more information, visit www.goucher.edu/H1N1.
