Professor Jeffrey’s publications include the book, The Great Silent Army of Abolitionism, (awarded the Choice Award for Academic Book of Excellence and honorable mention for the Frederick Douglass Prize, given by the Gilder Lehrman Center at Yale University) and Converting the West: A Biography of Narcissa Whitman. She also co-authored and co-edited The American People: The History of a Nation and a Society. Her articles and essays have appeared in sources such as Historical Journal of Film, Radio, and Television, Journal of the Early Republic, and Encyclopedia of American Culture. Professor Jeffrey recently was the Fulbright Chair in American Studies in Denmark and previously received a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship. She has made numerous presentations at colleges, universities, and historical association meetings. Her courses include American Society and Culture; Architectural Space and the American Family Experience; Morality and Power in Twentieth-century American Policy; and the Personal Narrative in American History and Culture. Professor Jeffrey has also served as Chair of the History Department.
