The Office of Communications has been hard at work this year designing a brand new logo for Goucher College. Our in-house designers came up with three possible options, and we sought feedback from faculty, trustees, students, and staff. The final design chosen was created by Marcia McCray, and you can click on the attached PDF file to view it.
This design embodies all that is unique about Goucher. The word “Goucher” is in a typeface called Bembo. It is a traditional, distinguished font that reflects the rich legacy of Goucher’s history as well as its rigorous academic program. The word “College” is in a more modern font called Neutraface, and is indicative of Goucher’s innovative spirit and willingness to try new things. In short, we feel this new logo helps reinforce Goucher’s place as a leader among liberal arts institutions.
The logo will be rolled out in September when we install a new lighted sign at the front entrance of the campus. The sign will feature the new logo and will replace the current sign.
Given our limited financial resources, we will implement the logo on a “rolling” basis. For example, we will first make sure that it is on all of our electronic messaging such as the website, email banners, e-blasts, etc. We will also start putting the logo on any new publications or items that we create. We will order new business cards and stationery with the new logo as offices use up what they currently have.
In September, every office will receive a guidebook that explains how the new logo can be used. In the meantime, if you have any questions about logo usage, e-mail me at kate.pipkin@goucher.edu.
