Surfing the Internet Safely on "goucher" Wireless

Starting on Monday, July 27, 2009, laptops connecting to the "goucher" wireless network will need to register through Campus Manager. Campus Manager is a system that Information Technology uses to ensure that every computer connecting to the network on campus has the proper software installed to combat viruses and spyware. 

Why are we doing this?

More people are connecting their personal laptops wirelessly. Computers are getting increasingly more susceptible to computer viruses and spyware. Infections by viruses or spyware can slow down your computer, damage your computer, and infect other computers on the network. We can help limit the spread of these infections by introducing Campus Manager to the Goucher wireless network.

How will this affect you?

As soon as you connect to the "goucher" wireless network, launch your Internet browser and you will be prompted to register your computer.  Follow the directions on the screen to complete the registration process.  Please note that once your computer is registered, you will not need to go through this process until the next school year. 

What can you do ahead of time?

Visit the Campus Manager FAQpage for a complete list of minimum requirements needed to connect to the "Goucher" wireless network, such as:

• The latest software updates for the computers using Windows
•  
• McAfee anti-virus installed and running

Connecting to "gouchervisitor" only allows you to connect to the Internet.  While connected to the visitor network, you will not be able to connect to internal network resources such as printers and file servers. Computers connecting to "gouchervisitor" will not need to go through the Campus Manager registration process.
