Student Counseling Service

Mission Statement

Since emotional growth and personal well-being contribute significantly to a positive, holistic educational experience, Goucher College offers professional counseling services to all students within the Goucher community. Counseling services are free and confidential.

Counseling can be used as a tool in dealing with a wide range of concerns which include: personal/emotional problems, adjustment to college, family and relational conflicts, substance abuse issues, sexual assault and abuse, as well as academic concerns such as test anxiety, motivation difficulties and career decisions.

We provide counseling/therapy to individual students, couples and groups. We also provide consultation services to Goucher faculty and staff. We are available to do training and consultation in our offices and where requested throughout the Goucher campus. As needed and appropriate, we will assist with outside referrals for psychological testing, psychiatric consultations and long-term therapy.

Usually appointments can be made within a few days. In cases of immediate need, students as well as faculty and staff are encouraged to utilize the drop-in services (no appointment necessary) Monday through Friday  at 1:00 p.m.   Urgent call-in hours are available on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  A counselor will return phone calls within the hour of the call.
