Article Abstract:

Lamar R. Hylton, assistant director for programming in Goucher's Office of Student Engagement, is featured as an outstanding young community leader.

Lead:

The Rev. Michael W. Waters was a senior in high school when he was "called" to the ministry. He had just finished speaking during a youth program at a rural church in south Texas when a middle-age man walked to the front of the church as the congregation erupted into shouts of praise. In response to his message, he was told later, the man decided to seek help for his drug addiction and his return to his family and the church. "This singular moment lit a new life within me toward the life-changing power of the Gospel and awakened a deeper sense of calling and purpose for my life," says Waters, 29, founder and pastor of Joy Tabernacle AME Church in Dallas.
