Molière's LeBourgeois Gentilhomme is a classic comic tale about social climbing and illusions of grandeur. As always, Molière's work features the plot twists and turns of a master playwright. In this play, he explores one of his major themes: the confusion of appearances and reality. Combining farce, satire, music and dance, Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme shows the Jourdain family trying to deal with Monsieur Jourdain's eager efforts to jump up the status ladder.
Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme will be performed by the French theater troupe, The T.R.A.C. The T.R.A.C. founded in 1979, is a non-profit company based in the small rural town of Beaumes-de-Venise in the Vaucluse department of southern France. The T.R.A.C. has toured widely in Europe and North Africa. The troupe has considerable experience performing in non-French speaking environments. The troupe's lively productions have won over audiences at all levels of proficiency in French. The T.R.A.C. will also host students in the Goucher French Theatre Study Abroad program when they travel to southern France this spring.
