Ask Big Questions

Ask Big Questions – Thursday, November 19 @ 5-6 p.m
Location:  Athenaeum – Room 422

Our current question:  “For what are you thankful?”

Yes, the timing is good; as we head into this season of Thanksgiving, it is appropriate that we ask ourselves this big question.  We hope you will take some time actually to think about and answer this question, not just notice it and let it slip by.  Talk with someone over a meal; ask your roommate or a friend, or a member of your family.  How about writing a note to someone to let them know you are thankful for something they did?  Or maybe send a quick email or text of thanks?

And then, on Thursday, November 19,  join  Professor Jeffrey Chappell (Music Department) for a conversation about, “What does it mean to lead a thankful life?”  Folks will gather to hear Jeff’s thoughts about how he lives his life thankfully, and also to share with one another ways in which we can be more intentionally thankful.

So, Goucher folks, “for what are you thankful?”

ABQ = Ask Big Question (sponsored by the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, and Goucher Hillel).

Hope you can join us!

PAST QUESTIONS:

9/3/09 =  "What is the best advice you ever received?"

9/24/09 = "For whom are we responsible?"

10/13 /09 =  "What brings you joy?"

10/22 /09 = " What do you wish you could tell your parents?"

We hope you will find ways to use these questions in your clubs, groups, teams, and classes. If any of the staff or student abq leaders can be of help to you (leading a discussion, etc), please let us know.

You can post your response at: http://blogs.goucher.edu/askbigquestions/

In addition to ABQ programs, there are on-going opportunities for all members of the community to be part of "ABQ:  Ask Big Questions.”

  • Find a post-it in the residence halls or near the banners and write a response to the question. Responses will be collected and added to the blog.
  • Read the table tents in the dining halls and talk with friends at a meal.
  • Share stories and thoughts at the start of a meeting.
  • Use the question to program a meeting or build community with your residence hall floor, your athletic team, or your academic department.
  • Watch a film related to the question.  Some suggestions include:  Defending Your Life, Groundhog Day, American Beauty, and The Notebook.

ABQ started at Northwestern University.  To read responses from their students, go to http://www.askbigquestions.com/week6/what-day-in-your-life-would-you-like-to-live-over/.
