Goucher Summer Science Research

Eighteen Goucher science and mathematics students who have spent the summer doing research will present their findings on Thursday, August 5, in the Batza Room of the Athenaeum. Talks will be held 10-11:45 a.m. and 12:30-2:30 p.m. All members of the Goucher community are invited to attend.

Summer Reading Selection 2010

Selected based on suggestions from faculty and staff, Catfish and Mandala will spark discussion among new students, staff, and professors during Goucher’s fall orientation session. This summer, incoming students will receive a copy of the book and study guide questions to foster group conversation during a daylong discussion of the book and its themes that will be held on Monday, August 30.

Eat Local Challenge
Goucher College’s food services provider, Bon Appétit Management Company, will serve a lunch made entirely from ingredients originating within a 150-mile radius of campus on Tuesday, September 28, as part of the "Eat Local Challenge."

18th Annual Renie Amoss Memorial Race

The 18th Annual Renie Amoss Memorial Race will be held at Goucher College on Sunday, October 10, at 9 a.m. in conjunction with Family Weekend. The race is a tribute to Corene “Renie” Amoss ’93, a three-sport athlete and honors student who majored in economics and management before she died in an automobile accident in 1993.

Goucher Launches Master of Arts in Digital Arts Program

Goucher College has launched and is accepting applications for its Master of Arts in Digital Arts (MADArts), a limited-residency online degree that allows students who are interested in music, digital culture, and media to create a marketable body of work in collaboration with well-known, working digital artists.

Amber Kepple Jones Wins 2010 Fulbright Award

Amber Kepple Jones '10 was awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Grant to be an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) in Germany from September 2010 through June 2011. She will be placed as a teaching assistant in an English class at a German school in Moritzburg, a small village near Dresden. ETAs help English teachers in the classroom about 12 hours per week.

Goucher Art History Professor April Oettinger Receives Curriculum Development Grant From Peirce Center

Goucher College’s Brooke and Carol Peirce Center for Undergraduate Research in Special Collections has awarded April Oettinger, assistant professor of art history, a curriculum development grant to attend the Rare Book School at the University of Virginia this summer.

Report commends Goucher College for keeping its carbon footprint low
An external environmental consulting firm recently conducted a greenhouse gas emissions inventory at Goucher, and found that the college is doing well in its efforts to reduce the emission of harmful gases.

Spring 2010 Peirce Center Research Fellows Announced

The Brooke and Carol Peirce Center for Undergraduate Research in Special Collections is pleased to announce the Spring 2010 Undergraduate Research Fellows: Oliver Cole ’10, Lucie Ferguson ’10, Anne McLaughlin ’10, and Maura Roth-Gormley ’10. The fellows will receive stipends of $500 to $1,000 to conduct research on primary sources and documentary evidence in Goucher’s Special Collections and Archives.

Athenaeum Wins U.S. Green Building Council Award
Goucher College’s new Athenaeum has received the 2009 Accomplishment Award from the Maryland Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. The award recognizes the Athenaeum for its innovative use of green strategies, its attention to the needs of students and faculty, and its impact on the local community.

Goucher Ranks in Top 10 for Study Abroad

Goucher’s continued dedication to the importance of global education earned the college recognition in the Institute of International Education’s (IIE) Open Doors report released this month. Goucher was named among the country’s top 10 baccalaureate institutions—and the No. 1 school in Maryland—in undergraduate participation in study-abroad programs, with 90 percent of students learning overseas.
