Goucher College: Gettes, Gretchen

Cellist Gretchen Gettes believes life doesn't get much better than playing music you like with people you like. Ms. Gettes earned an undergraduate degree from Duke University and a Masters of Music degree from USC where she studied with Lynn Harrell. She was a member of the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra for six years, and in addition to performing the Nutcracker over 130 times, played on numerous film soundtracks and commercials. An active freelancer since moving to Baltimore, Gretchen has played with the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Baltimore Opera Orchestra, and has written and recorded string parts for many local rock bands. She maintains a private teaching studio as well as faculty positions at Goucher College, Peabody Preparatory and Baltimore School for the Arts.
