Information Technology Checklist for Fall 2007

  1. All first-time and returning students should go to student check-in.
  1. At the Information Technology table:
  • First-time students will receive a copy of the Microsoft Office Professional software and directions for installing the software. Students will also sign an agreement form indicating that they have received the software.

  • Students can ask questions about campus technology services and support.
  1. Students should:
  • Connect their television to the cable television outlet.

  • Connect their telephone to the telephone outlet.

  • Connect their computer to the network outlet.

  • Customize their voice mail box greeting (for students residing on campus only).

  • Install Microsoft Office Professional software.

  • Register computer through Campus Manager to connect to the network and to access the Internet.
  1. All first-time students will need to attend a Technology Orientation session on August 26 to receive a hands-on overview of campus technology services and support.
  • NOTE: You will automatically be assigned to one of the Technology Orientation sessions by Student Life
  1. Assistance is provided to students in connecting their computer to the Goucher College Network during the Connection Fair.
  • If you have a laptop computer, drop it off at the Help Desk.
  • A blue hangtag will be placed in each student’s mailbox in the Post Office in Pearlstone. Blue hangtags will also be available from the Community Advisors (CAs) and will be posted on bulletin boards in the residential halls. Students simply fill out the necessary information on the hangtag and hang it on the door to their residence hall room on any of the days and times for their house or hall. NOTE: This hangtag should also be used for telephone, voice mail, cable television, and Microsoft Office Professional software installation problems.
  • Information Technology personnel will visit buildings at specific days and times to assist students in connecting their computer to the Campus Network or assist students who may be experiencing problems.
  • We recommend that students remain available to answer any questions, but if students must leave the room, they may check the box on their hangtag giving permission for staff members to enter their room and check their connections in their absence. Information Technology staff members will not enter a student’s room unless they are given permission in this way; otherwise, students will have to wait for the next scheduled date and time.
  • Prior to the Connection Fair, students may report problems to the Help Desk. Assistance will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis until the Connection Fair begins.
  • If you are still having problems after the Connection Fair is over, please contact the Help Desk.
  1. Students should call the Help Desk for any computer, telephone, voice mail, and cable television questions, problems, information, or service requests. The Help Desk can be reached by phone (410.337.6322) or e-mail (helpdesk@goucher.edu). The Help Desk is located in Room 162 of Van Meter Hall. Information about student technology services and support is also available on the Information Technology Web Site (http://www.goucher.edu/it/).
