Sharon Hassan, Goucher College’s director of student financial aid, has been chosen to serve as the chair-elect of the College Board’s Middle States Regional Council, effective February 2009.
The Middle States Regional Council supports the mission of the nonprofit College Board, which is to connect all students to college success and opportunity. The council serves as a representative body, an advisory panel, and professional resource that provides service, guidance, and support to the Middle States membership and regional staff.
As chair-elect, Hassan will regularly attend Middle States Regional Council and Middle States Regional Forum meetings, and she will contribute to member-governance committees of the regional council, as well as national College Board committees and advisory groups. She will serve as chair-elect for one year and then successive one-year terms as chair and immediate past chair.
“Sharon Hassan has headed a number of subcommittees of the Middle States Regional Council of the College Board and brings a wealth of experience to her new position as chair-elect. By electing Sharon to this position, our council has reinforced the tremendous confidence they have in her leadership ability,” says Jay Tucker, chair of the Middle States Regional Council.
Hassan has served as Goucher College’s director of student financial aid since November 1999. In this position, she leads a joint student administrative services center that includes registration, billing, and financial aid, and she provides guidance regarding the college’s strategic plan, risk management, tuition discounting, retention, and the use of technology. Hassan oversees the administration of $30 million in financial aid to Goucher’s undergraduate and graduate populations — about 1,500 and 900 students, respectively.
In addition to numerous other professional affiliations — including local, regional, and national associations of student financial aid administrators — Hassan has been a member of the College Board Middle States Regional Council since 2006.
